<P><FONT SIZE=2>I am looking at some wireless access scheme</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>and am trying to determine a good 98% threshold</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>for the Layer 2 connection's setup time. </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>I am assuming that a) the carried traffic is mostly</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>TCP and b) all reactivations are triggered</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>by the generation at a mobile of a TCP</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>SYN packet.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>It seems to me that the threshold should be equal</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>to the typical round-trip delay + initial</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>TCP connection retransmission timer</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>since the connection establishment will be </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>triggered by the initial SYN packet.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>This way spurious retransmissions are avoided</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>and "slow"-start can take place.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>Is the value of the initial TCP connection</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>timer usually equal to 3 seconds ?</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>Do you know of any work out there on similar</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>TCP over wireless initial access issues ?</FONT>
