I'm not sure I should be proud of it, but I recall both verbal and some
written advice to my masters in the University of Queensland about the
implications of this stupid WWW stuff, and how hard it was to fit into a
proper, authorized publishing model. Your basic 'another bad idea' message.

It was quite clear within a short period of time how badly I (and others in
computer centres) had mis-judged what real-users, departments, academics
wanted from IT, and how wonderfully liberating the web was for them,
precisely because it bypassed all that bureaucratic crap people like me
wanted to foist on them.
