on the production internet, source routing has been occasionally used to
enforce strange aups; and that usually did not last for long.

lsr traceroute is occasionally used for inter-provider debugging at
inter-provider borders only.  it allows provider A to know how provider B is
forwarding (and hence implies routing info) for a prefix without having to
have complex inter-noc email/voice.
